The results of the survey will be used to further improve the school's already strict anti bullying policy but suggestions by pupils themselves included punishing or excluding bullies, having more staff in corridors during breaktimes, more CCTV, extra guidance and education for perpetrators and an extension of the Fight Against Bullying (FAB) scheme, which has run for eight years.

Chloe Roshe Run Leather Smith, 15, from Levenshulme, said: "You are not always aware what's going on because people are too shy or scared about what the bullies might say. But a lot of the Year 7s have said it's not as bad here as they thought it would be because of the FAB girls."
Each year, three Year 10 pupils from each of the tutor groups volunteer as FAB girls, who mentor Year 7 students and help guide them through their first few months at senior school. Tutor groups also have mixed ages to encourage interaction between older and younger girls.

Assistant headteacher Amanda Pugh said: "A lot of the girls think bullying is thumping you. Even they don't class verbal bullying like name calling and gossip as bullying."
Each year new FAB girls complete a residential course where they are taught basic counselling skills, and do group activities like role playing and discussing what problems they might encounter. Each week they hold a FAB meeting with staff co ordinators where they talk about issues that have arisen. Although they are keen to stress that everything said to them is confidential, if a pupil talks to them and more serious issues come to light, the FAB girls will encourage the youngster to tell a member of staff.
Mrs Pugh said: "I think it has reduced the incidences of bullying. The Year 7s have a much more settled start and there seems to be less low level personality clashes when 200 young women get together for the first time.
